Baby Reunited With Mother: VDM Praises Nigerian Police but Raises Concern Over Child’s Welfare
Social media activist Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced the successful reunion of a baby with the child’s biological mother following what appears to have been a coordinated intervention involving his team and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Expressing both relief and gratitude, VDM described the outcome as a significant achievement, while also raising concerns about the child’s long-term welfare. According to him, although the reunion was an important milestone, he believes it may not yet be in the child’s best interest to be permanently handed over to the mother without further assessment.
“I am very happy with the effort of the Nigerian Police Force and the effort of my team,” he said, noting that the collaboration between law enforcement officers and his team played a vital role in resolving the matter. However, he added that based on what he had observed throughout the process, he does not believe the mother is currently responsible enough to care for the child independently.
VDM stressed that the safety, protection and future of the baby should remain the primary concern of everyone involved. He suggested that authorities should continue monitoring the situation and ensure that any final custody decision is made strictly in the best interest of the child.
Beyond the reunion itself, the social commentator used the opportunity to commend several senior police officers whom he said demonstrated professionalism, dedication and commitment throughout the operation.
He reserved special appreciation for the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), DIG Zachariah Fera Achinyan, thanking him for assembling what he described as one of the most effective policing teams in the country.
According to VDM, the Special Tactical Squad (STS) based in Guzape, Abuja, impressed him with its professionalism, intelligence and disciplined approach to policing. He praised the officers for carrying out their duties with integrity and for representing the ideals of modern law enforcement.
He noted that the squad’s conduct reinforced public confidence in the police and demonstrated that effective policing is achievable when officers are properly trained, equipped and committed to serving the public.
VDM also acknowledged the leadership of the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Sanusi Muhammad, expressing appreciation for his continued efforts in maintaining security and supporting effective policing within Abuja.
In addition, he paid glowing tribute to the Commander of the Special Tactical Squad, DCP Victor Ogbeide, describing him as an exemplary officer whose leadership reflects the kind of professionalism Nigerians expect from the police.
Offering prayers and words of encouragement, VDM said he hopes more officers with similar dedication and integrity will emerge across police commands nationwide. According to him, placing officers with such commitment in police stations across the country would significantly improve public trust and transform policing in Nigeria.
He maintained that the success recorded in the baby reunion was not accidental but rather the result of teamwork, intelligence gathering and coordinated law enforcement efforts.
The activist further extended his appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, whom he credited with strengthening policing structures in the Federal Capital Territory. He described the current police leadership in Abuja as focused, responsive and capable of delivering results when presented with challenging situations.
VDM concluded by praying for the continued success of the Nigeria Police Force and encouraging officers who remain committed to professionalism and justice.
While the successful reunion of the child with the biological mother has been widely welcomed, VDM’s comments have also sparked conversations about child welfare and parental responsibility.
