Transfer Deadline Day 2026 is delivering major moves across Europe, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and other top clubs completing major deals as the summer window closes.
The 2026 summer transfer window has entered its final and most dramatic stage, with clubs across Europe racing to complete their remaining business before registration deadlines expire.
In England, Premier League clubs have until 11pm UK time on Tuesday, September 1, to complete transfers. The final day has already produced several significant moves, while more deals are expected to be officially confirmed before the deadline.
Chelsea and Arsenal are among the clubs attracting considerable attention, although their Deadline Day activity has taken different directions.
Chelsea have been one of the busiest clubs during the summer window, and their business continued to dominate headlines on Deadline Day.
Fernandez to move from Chelsea to Manchester City for a reported British-record £125 million. Reuters reported that Fernandez was set to undergo a medical as City moved to complete the blockbuster transfer.
Fernandez has been an important figure at Stamford Bridge since joining Chelsea from Benfica in 2023. His proposed departure would represent one of the most significant sales in the club’s history and another major statement from Manchester City.
Chelsea have also completed the signing of Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor, although reports indicate that the defender’s arrival is connected to the club’s wider squad planning.
Earlier in the summer, Chelsea completed the £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, while Nicolas Jackson moved in the opposite direction to Villa for £65 million.
Another confirmed Chelsea-related Deadline Day move saw Marc Guiu leave the club for RB Leipzig in a deal worth approximately £14.6 million, according to Sky Sports.
Arsenal have also been highly active during the transfer window.
The Gunners completed the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes for £75 million. The Brazilian midfielder signed a four-year contract with an option for a further year, giving Arsenal another major addition to their midfielder.
Arsenal’s other notable summer arrivals include defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge and defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. Illan Meslier also joined the club from Leeds United on a free transfer.
The north London club have also been involved in outgoing business. Jakub Kiwior moved to Porto, while Leandro Trossard joined Besiktas. Fabio Vieira, meanwhile, completed a move from Arsenal to Hamburg for around £7.7 million on Deadline Day.
Across the Premier League, Aston Villa completed the signing of Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain for £47 million and Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Southampton for £30 million.
Crystal Palace also secured Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor on loan according to Sky Sports’ Deadline Day tracker.
Liverpool’s summer business has also attracted major attention, with Bradley Barcola arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in a package reported at around £123 million. The transfer made Barcola one of the most expensive signings in Premier League history.
Manchester City have also been major players in the market. Elliot Anderson joined from Nottingham Forest for £116 million, while the club’s proposed £125 million move for Fernandez could become another record-breaking transaction.
Tottenham have strengthened with major additions including Savinho from Manchester City and Sandro Tonali, while Manchester United signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton for £70 million.
Deadline still open for late drama
Although the headline deadline in England is 11pm, deals agreed shortly before the cutoff can receive additional time through the Premier League’s deal-sheet system. Clubs can also continue transferring players to countries whose registration windows remain open.
Spain’s window also closes on September 1, while Germany and France closed on August 31. Italy’s Serie A deadline is also on September 1.
With several clubs still working on late deals, Deadline Day could yet produce more surprises before the paperwork is finally completed.
