TAKUM, TARABA STATE — The Taraba State College of Health Technology, Takum, celebrated a significant milestone as it marked its 1995–2024 Convocation Ceremony, commemorating 30 years of excellence in healthcare education, professional training, and community service. The colourful ceremony brought together government officials, healthcare professionals, academics, alumni, traditional rulers, parents, students, and other distinguished guests to celebrate the institution’s remarkable journey over the past three decades.

The event was not only a graduation ceremony for successful students but also a celebration of the institution’s enduring legacy in producing skilled healthcare professionals who continue to serve communities across Taraba State, Nigeria, and beyond. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as graduating students proudly donned their academic regalia, marking the successful completion of years of rigorous academic and practical training.

Established in 1995, the Taraba State College of Health Technology, Takum, was founded to address the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals capable of strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly at the primary healthcare level. Over the last 30 years, the institution has grown into one of the leading health training colleges in northeastern Nigeria, producing thousands of graduates who now serve in hospitals, primary healthcare centres, laboratories, public health agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private medical facilities.

Its graduates have played vital roles in improving maternal and child health, disease prevention, immunization campaigns, environmental health, medical laboratory services, community health education, and emergency healthcare delivery. Many alumni have also distinguished themselves in public service, higher education, healthcare administration, and international development programmes, contributing significantly to healthcare advancement within and outside Taraba State.

The college has earned a reputation for combining academic excellence with practical field experience, ensuring that graduates are well prepared to meet the healthcare needs of both rural and urban communities.

One of the major highlights of the celebration was the Convocation Lecture, which examined the future of healthcare in an era increasingly shaped by technology and innovation.

The lecture explored topics such as entrepreneurship in healthcare, preparing health professionals for the changing world of work, and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare delivery. Speakers emphasized that modern healthcare professionals must continuously develop new skills to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving global healthcare environment.

Participants were encouraged to embrace digital health technologies, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship as essential tools for improving healthcare services and creating employment opportunities. The discussions highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in disease diagnosis, patient management, health information systems, medical research, and public health surveillance.

The speakers noted that while technology continues to transform healthcare globally, human compassion, ethical practice, and professional integrity remain indispensable qualities for every healthcare practitioner.

Throughout its history, the Taraba State College of Health Technology has consistently supplied highly trained healthcare workers to both public and private health institutions across the country. Many of its graduates currently serve in the Taraba State Ministry of Health, Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, teaching hospitals, local government primary healthcare departments, and numerous healthcare facilities in neighbouring states.

Beyond Nigeria, some alumni have pursued advanced studies and professional careers abroad, further demonstrating the institution’s growing reputation for academic excellence.

The college’s graduates have been actively involved in tackling public health challenges, including disease outbreaks, maternal healthcare, child survival programmes, environmental sanitation, and health promotion campaigns. Their contributions have strengthened healthcare delivery, particularly in rural communities where access to qualified healthcare workers remains limited.

The convocation ceremony also celebrated the leadership of Dr. Wama Binga Dan Azumi (JP), Provost of the institution, whose administration continues to prioritize academic quality, infrastructural development, staff capacity building, and strategic partnerships.

Guests commended the management for sustaining the college’s standards while adapting to the changing demands of healthcare education. They encouraged continued investment in modern laboratories, digital learning facilities, research, and innovation to prepare graduates for emerging global healthcare challenges.

The ceremony featured academic processions, goodwill messages, the conferment of certificates on graduating students, and recognition of individuals who have contributed to the institution’s growth over the years.

Addressing the graduating students, speakers urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, discipline, and compassion in their careers. They reminded the new graduates that healthcare is fundamentally about serving humanity and that their responsibilities extend beyond clinical practice to community development, disease prevention, and public health advocacy.

The graduates were also encouraged to pursue lifelong learning, embrace technological innovation, and develop entrepreneurial skills capable of creating sustainable healthcare solutions and employment opportunities.

Parents, guardians, and family members joined in celebrating the achievements of the graduating class, applauding their resilience, dedication, and commitment throughout their academic journey.

As the Taraba State College of Health Technology celebrates its 30-year legacy (1995–2024), stakeholders expressed confidence that the institution will continue to build on its achievements by expanding academic programmes, strengthening research, improving infrastructure, and embracing modern healthcare technologies.

With healthcare increasingly driven by digital innovation and evidence-based practice, the college is well positioned to remain a leading institution for training competent healthcare professionals capable of meeting national and global healthcare needs.

The 1995–2024 Convocation Ceremony therefore served not only as a celebration of graduating students but also as a tribute to three decades of dedication to healthcare education, human capital development, and public service. As the institution embarks on its next chapter, its commitment to producing skilled, ethical, and innovative healthcare professionals remains unwavering a legacy that will continue to impact Taraba State, Nigeria, and the wider global health community for generations to come.
