Taraba Police, TIRS Strengthen Partnership to Boost Security and Economic Growth
JALINGO, Taraba State — The Taraba State Police Command and the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service (TIRS) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening institutional collaboration as part of efforts to strengthen security, improve governance, and create a more enabling environment for economic growth across the state.
This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Executive Chairman of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service (TIRS), Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd.), to the Commissioner of Police, CP Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal, psc (+), SM, ICM, at the Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
The TIRS delegation, which included members of the agency’s board, directors, and heads of various units, visited the Police Command to strengthen the existing relationship between both institutions and explore new areas of cooperation in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
The meeting underscored the growing recognition that sustainable development, improved revenue generation, and public safety are closely linked. Both agencies agreed that effective collaboration between security institutions and government agencies remains essential for promoting peace, strengthening public confidence, and supporting the overall development agenda of the Taraba State Government.
Speaking during the visit, the Executive Chairman of TIRS, Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd.), expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police and the Command’s management team for the warm reception accorded to his delegation.
He described the visit as an important step toward strengthening cooperation between both institutions, noting that no government agency can effectively achieve its mandate without collaboration with other critical stakeholders.
According to him, the relationship between revenue-generating agencies and security institutions plays a vital role in ensuring that economic activities flourish in a peaceful and secure environment.
He stressed that businesses, investors, and taxpayers are more likely to contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy when they operate in an atmosphere of safety and stability.
The TIRS Chairman further explained that maintaining law and order is fundamental to improving internally generated revenue, attracting investment, and supporting government programmes aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
He emphasized the need for continuous cooperation in addressing emerging challenges capable of affecting economic activities and the effective delivery of public services across Taraba State.
Responding, Commissioner of Police CP Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal welcomed the delegation and commended the leadership of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service for recognizing the importance of strategic institutional partnerships.
The Police Commissioner assured the visitors that the Taraba State Police Command remains committed to sustaining a productive working relationship with TIRS and other government institutions in line with its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
According to him, security remains a collective responsibility that cannot be achieved by security agencies alone.
He explained that meaningful progress can only be recorded when government institutions, community leaders, private organizations, and citizens work together toward a common objective.
CP Dongshal reiterated that the Police Command would continue to provide the necessary security support required for government agencies to discharge their lawful responsibilities without intimidation or disruption.
He noted that a peaceful environment remains one of the most important requirements for economic growth, investment, and sustainable development.
The Commissioner further stated that strengthening collaboration between the Police and revenue agencies would not only improve institutional effectiveness but also contribute significantly to maintaining public order and promoting confidence in government institutions.
Discussions during the meeting also focused on practical ways of improving information sharing, enhancing operational cooperation, and strengthening communication between both organizations.
Participants explored areas of mutual interest that could further improve service delivery while supporting the government’s broader development objectives.
Analysts believe that stronger collaboration between security agencies and revenue authorities can help improve tax compliance, protect government infrastructure, discourage criminal activities that threaten economic growth, and create a more business-friendly environment for investors.
As governments across Nigeria continue to seek innovative ways of increasing internally generated revenue, partnerships between agencies responsible for revenue administration and those charged with maintaining public safety have become increasingly important.
Such collaborations are widely regarded as essential for ensuring that government policies are implemented effectively while protecting legitimate businesses and safeguarding public resources.
For Taraba State, where agriculture, commerce, transportation, and small-scale enterprises remain major drivers of the economy, maintaining peace and security is critical to achieving long-term economic prosperity.
The courtesy visit therefore reflects a shared understanding that institutional cooperation is not merely ceremonial but an important strategy for addressing the complex governance and security challenges facing modern societies.
By strengthening communication, promoting mutual trust, and encouraging regular engagement, both the Taraba State Police Command and the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service hope to improve service delivery while contributing to the state’s overall peace, stability, and economic development.
The meeting concluded with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to sustaining collaboration, improving coordination, and working together in the interest of the people and Government of Taraba State.
Their renewed partnership is expected to support ongoing efforts to build a safer environment where businesses can thrive, public institutions can function effectively, and citizens can enjoy the benefits of improved governance and sustainable development.
