Residents Celebrate as Operation FANSAN YAMMA Troops Record Major Victory Against Bandits in Zamfara

Residents of Gummi Local Government Area in Zamfara State poured into the streets on Thursday to celebrate troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following a major counter-banditry operation that resulted in the neutralisation of scores of terrorists and the recovery of logistics previously used by criminal groups operating in the area.

The troops returned to their base after a successful offensive at Dutsen Gidan Hill, located about 17 kilometres from Gummi town, where they carried out what military authorities described as a decisive operation against armed bandits that have long threatened communities across the North-West.

According to the Nigerian Army, the operation demonstrated the troops’ tactical effectiveness as they dismantled terrorist positions and recovered dozens of motorcycles believed to have been used by bandits to launch attacks, evade security forces, and transport weapons and supplies.

The recovered motorcycles were transported back to the military base aboard an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), marking a significant logistical setback for the criminal groups.

The soldiers were welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of residents who gathered at the military base and along major routes to cheer and applaud the troops for their courage and commitment to restoring peace in the area. Witnesses described the reception as spontaneous, with community members expressing gratitude for the sacrifices made by the security personnel in confronting armed groups that have disrupted livelihoods and displaced families across parts of Zamfara State.

The public display of appreciation highlights growing confidence in the military’s ongoing operations and reflects the strengthening relationship between local communities and security forces. Residents believe the recent successes achieved by Operation FANSAN YAMMA offer renewed hope that lasting peace can gradually return to communities affected by years of banditry and insecurity.

Security analysts have consistently noted that cooperation between local residents and security agencies plays a vital role in combating insurgency and banditry. Intelligence provided by community members often helps troops identify criminal hideouts, monitor movement, and plan targeted operations with greater precision.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West, stating that troops remain focused on dismantling criminal camps, disrupting logistics, and denying armed groups the freedom to operate.

The military also acknowledged the continued support of residents, urging members of the public to sustain the flow of credible and actionable intelligence that can assist ongoing operations. According to the Army, community partnership remains one of the most effective tools in defeating insecurity and protecting lives and property.

While security operations continue across Zamfara and neighbouring states, recent gains recorded by Operation FANSAN YAMMA are being viewed as another positive step in the broader effort to restore stability to one of Nigeria’s most affected regions.

The statement announcing the operation was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on 10 July 2026.

Military authorities have reiterated that operations against bandits will continue until criminal groups are dismantled and affected communities can live in safety without fear of attacks or intimidation.
